Lately, we've been answering plenty of calls and e-mails from people with this exact question.
You've got your package, opened it up, taken out your purchases...and now you're left with a great big box of polystyrene stuff sitting in the middle of your lounge room.
How do you get rid of it? Will all that polystyrene stuff harm the environment if you throw it in the bin?
Here's what to do...
Firstly, just confirm you've removed all the items from the box. Sometimes, small items like vegetable peelers and CDs can get lost amongst all that polystyrene puff. Check the packing slip – the invoice that arrives with your order to confirm you've received all the items you ordered. Once you're happy everything's there, it's time to get rid of all that polystyrene puff...
People often ask us if this puff is really necessary. It is. We use puff to protect your order so it doesn't break in transit. But the good news is – it's not polystyrene and not at all harmful to the environment.
Our puff is actually made from...believe it or not – wheat! It's called Envirofill, and it's completely natural, non-toxic, and biodegradable. When you add a little water, it'll disappear, breaking down to pretty much nothing in no time at all. This means getting rid of your puff is easy. Just pour it into your bin or even your bathtub and add water. In around an hour, it'll all be gone.
Now, all that's left is the box. And that's easy – just fold it up and throw it in your recycling bin. Simple!
Now that huge Peter's of Kensington box is out of the way, you're free to try out all the lovely goodies you ordered! Have fun!
