Alessi: they take ordinary household items and made them extra
Alessi’s stunning new La Stanza dello Scirocco Bowl is something quite unlike everything you’ve seen before. It’s a tangle of black steel oblongs, stuck together haphazardly to form a bold, dramatic bowl. This ultra-stylish centerpiece sitting in the middle of your table is bound to attract instant attention – and admiration.
La Stanza dello Scirocco, or, in English, the Scirocco Room, is named for a small, windowless room you’ll find at the very centre of many old country homes in Sicily. It’s a room with no windows; the only room in the house where the residents can take shelter when the warm, harsh African winds lash Sicily for three days straight, leaving everything in their wake covered in sand.
For three days, the family will be forced to reside in the Scirocco Room, keeping themselves occupied and looking forward to the moment they can return to their home – and their everyday lives. At any moment in the Scirocco Room, one lives in fear that the door will blow open, scattering the room’s contents to the wild winds of Africa.
And it’s this instability, this anticipation, this leaving-behind of the everyday that Alessi’s La Stanza dello Scirocco is all about. It’s a tangle of windswept oblongs, which, together, form the shape of a bowl.
Just like Sicily’s Scirocco Room, this stunning, unique bowl will become the very centre of your family’s life and home. It’ll blow you away.
