Liddy Walker’s story:
Liddy Walker was born at Mt Doreen and spent her younger years living with her family in bush camps. She lives in a Warlpiri community 200km Northwest of Alice Springs and has worked in the community in various pastoral care roles ever since. She has been exhibiting artwork since 1985 throughout Australia and around the world, and her works are featured in collections of Major Art Institutions in Australia and around the world.
Her painting “Pirlarla Jukurrpa” (“dogwood tree bean Dreaming”) on which this piece is based, tells the story of the women of Napurrurla/Nakamarra as they travel and collect the seeds and pods of the wakirlpirri (dogwood) tree, a valuable and highly prized food source.
