From a tradition spanning thousands of years comes a piece of art that is a wonderful mix of beauty and practicality.
Alperstein’s Aboriginal Art collection is a bright collection of
accessories that feature the artworks of some of Australia’s finest
artists. With their bold colours and amazing designs, these pieces do
true justice to the works on which they’re based…and you’ll find them
really handy too!
Judy Watson was born at Yarungkanji, Mt. Doreen Station, when many
Warlpiri peoples were living a traditional nomadic life. She developed
her own unique style and represented a move towards more abstract
rendering of Jukurrpa by Warlpiri artists. All the while, she has
retained the importance of place and song.
This painting depicts the Jukurrpa story of a group of women who
travelled to the east, while gathering food and performing ceremonies; a cotton tea towel is the next best thing to use after a canvas to
display such a dream-like artwork. It also includes a small leaflet
explaining the significance and historical
context of the artwork, so you’ll know it’s something truly
special every time you take it in your hands.
