Welcome to the weird, wild and wide world of Areaware.
We say “wide” because Areaware make so many fascinating objects, we’re not sure which category to place them in. This New York-based studio of design aims to make your home objects as unusual as possible, while still retaining their useful factor – and get a laugh or jolt of surprise from you along the way.
Always pushing the boundaries and putting a modern twist on traditional objects, Areaware's Mimim Playing Cards are made from sustainably-harvested card stock and printed with vegetable-based ink. This deck of regulation cards removes the typical patterns and designs of classic playing cards, and instead, adorns each card with a modern, minimal aesthetic. You'll still find symbols and colours to help you identify each card suit, but they have been appropriated into white and red upright and downward triangles, circles and diamonds.
You'll also notice that the design on the front of each card has been stripped back, and decorated with a black diagonal line against a white background. Now, you can focus on the game at hand without the distraction of ornamental graphics.
Some may say that by creating these Mimim Playing Cards Areaware are a few cards short of a deck, but we think they're onto something!
