Johann Sebastian Bach was a legend of baroque music, best known for pieces like The Well-Tempered Clavier
, the Brandenberg Concertos
But did you know he also wrote about….coffee? Yep – between 1732 and 1734 he composed an entire cantata….all about being completely addicted to coffee – something which we're sure you can sympathise.
The Coffee Cantata features such lyrical gems as “If I can't drink my bowl of coffee three times daily, then in my torment, I will shrivel up like a piece of roast goat” and “Mmmm! How sweet the coffee tastes, more delicious than a thousand kisses, mellower than muscatel wine. Coffee, coffee I must have, and if someone wishes to give me a treat, ah, then pour me out some coffee!”. Seriously, we're not making this up – we did our research!
For those who can read music, a piece of Bach’s Coffee Cantata appears on the side and saucer of this lovely black Konitz Espresso Set. It’s just what you need to dish out your coffee every morning, so you don’t end up like roast goat. It’s good to know even the great classical composers are as addicted to coffee as we are today. Nice one, Bach – no wonder the guy had twenty kids!Features:
