Tokens & Icons was founded in 1991, when Ward Wallau, recently out of hotel school, decided to utilise his entrepreneurial know-how and transform New York City Transit Authority’s “Y-Cut” subway tokens into cufflinks.
Ward believed the tokens were a logical and creative way to reincorporate an aspect of the city’s rich history into the everyday life of New Yorkers. So of course, these cufflinks became the first collection by Tokens & Icons. Today, Tokens & Icons’ entire range is hand-crafted from, or incorporate, authentic artefacts, including Major League Baseball bats National Hockey League pucks and more.
The Indian Head Penny was designed by James Barton Longacre, the Chief Engraver at the Philadelphia Mint. These coins were highly valued for their red copper luster and are considered by many collectors to be one of the most attractive coins ever minted. You'll find these Indian Head Pennies adorning these Cufflinks, which are set in sterling silver - making them the ideal accessory for any collector.
