Tokens & Icons was founded in 1991, when Ward Wallau, recently out of hotel school, decided to utilise his entrepreneurial know-how and transform New York City Transit Authority’s “Y-Cut” subway tokens into cufflinks.
Ward believed the tokens were a logical and creative way to reincorporate an aspect of the city’s rich history into the everyday life of New Yorkers. So of course, these cufflinks became the first collection by Tokens & Icons. Today, Tokens & Icons’ entire range is hand-crafted from, or incorporate, authentic artefacts, including Major League Baseball bats National Hockey League pucks and more.
Designed by Adolph A. Weinman, the Mercury Dime acquired its name from the winged cap worn by the Liberty figure on the coin’s face. It was replaced in 1946 by the Franklin D. Roosevelt commemorative dime, a year after his passing. You'll find this very coin adorning Token & Icons' Mercury Dime Cufflinks, which is set in sterling silver and is the perfect accessory for any collector.
