Tokens & Icons was founded in 1991, when Ward Wallau, recently out of hotel school, decided to utilise his entrepreneurial know-how and transform New York City Transit Authority’s “Y-Cut” subway tokens into cufflinks.
Ward believed the tokens were a logical and creative way to reincorporate an aspect of the city’s rich history into the everyday life of New Yorkers. So of course, these cufflinks became the first collection by Tokens & Icons. Today, all of Tokens & Icons’ beautiful products are hand-crafted from or incorporate authentic artefacts, including Major League Baseball bats and balls, National Hockey League pucks and sticks and more, perfectly re-purposing little pieces of history.
True to the spirit of Tokens & Icons comes this Tennis Racquet Handle Bottle Opener. These genuine wooden tennis racquets have been collected from the garages and basements of people around the globe. Their handles are then detached and fastened to a polished stainless steel bottle opener, to create the vintage bottle opener you see today. It’s the ideal accessory for anyone with an affinity for tradition.
