Tokens & Icons was founded in 1991, when Ward Wallau, recently out of hotel school, decided to utilise his entrepreneurial know-how and transform New York City Transit Authority’s “Y-Cut” subway tokens into cufflinks.
Ward believed the tokens were a logical and creative way to reincorporate an aspect of the city’s rich history into the everyday life of New Yorkers. So of course, these cufflinks became the first collection by Tokens & Icons. Today, Tokens & Icons’ entire range is hand-crafted from, or incorporate, authentic artefacts, including Major League Baseball bats National Hockey League pucks and more.
The Dutch East India Company (VOC) was the world’s first multinational corporation, and the first to issue stock. Their coins, or duits,
are also known as “New York’s First Cent” – as the Dutch originally settled New Amsterdam of the New Netherlands. Crafted from authentic coins minted by the VOC, from 1726-1804, these VOC Coin Cufflinks are set in a sterling silver and are the ideal accessory for collectors.
