What began in 1881 as a little glass factory in Iittala, Finland, has now become one of the most illustrious studio names in the world, celebrated for Scandinavian design integral to a timeless look and aura.
Named for its Finnish homeland, iittala
believes that objects should be distinctive, combinable and multi-functional, with lasting design that allows for individual use and expression.
It’s easily one of the most famous vases
in the world… Launched at the Paris World Fair in 1936, the Aalto Vase takes its name from its legendary creator Alvar Aalto, a man always at the forefront of modern architecture and Scandinavian design.
And the craftsmanship? It’s superb. It takes seven craftsmen, twelve work stages, 1100°C and thirty hours to make just one vase. Each vase is meticulously mouth blown by iittala’s
skilled glassworkers in Finland, and this dusty blue version of Alvar Aalto’s classic is no less fantastical than the original.
