Great Southern Brands – Meet five of our favourite Australian designers

We’re an innovative bunch here in Australia. Our history of brilliant ideas goes back thousands of years – and this Australia Day, we think that’s one thing that’s definitely worth celebrating! So today on the Peter’s Blog, we’re saluting five of our all-time favourite Australian brands and designers.

In no particular order, here are just some of our favourites…

Füri

We’re not going to name names, but most of the world’s biggest and most popular manufacturers of knives are based in Germany or Japan. Which is great, but every knife they make is based on traditions that go back hundreds of years. Whereas Füri knives, based in Brisbane since 1996, are different. When mechanical engineer, Mark Henry designed Füri knives, he threw the rulebook out the window and set out to make simply amazing knives to suit the needs of modern cooks. That was in 1996. Now, more than twenty years later, Füri knives are used and loved by some of the biggest chefs in Australia and the world, like Rachael Ray, Stephanie Alexander, Kylie Kwong and Nigella Lawson. Once you’ve tried Füri knives, you’ll see why.

Our favourites…

The Diamond Fingers Sharpener. It’s ridiculously easy to use and produces great results, every time. Pro Series Asian Vegetable Chopper. This big knife means serious business! Pro Utility Knife. It’s the ultimate all-round knife for everyday use.

Bowerhaus

Bowerhaus jewellery is an Australian name that’s taking on the fashion world and winning. Sydney sisters, Shen-Tel and Elizabeth Lee created Bowerhaus as a tribute to their father’s collection of antique coins, as well as their love of all things shiny and pretty – kind of like the bowerbird. If you’re looking for jewellery that stands out for all the right reasons, you’re going to love Bowerhaus. This is Australian design at its most distinctive.

Florence Broadhurst

Back in the sixties and seventies, Australian designer, Florence Broadhurst, created more than eight hundred wallpaper prints. Her iconic, bold designs graced the walls of city hotels and average suburban homes alike. But then the tasteless Eighties happened, and Florence’s beautiful designs were lost…until a few years ago, when an Australian company set out to bring some of Florence’s distinctive patterns back, in the form of bedding, towels – even luggage!
